Training Trainers and Support Services (TTSS)
Grant program: Play Our Way Program - Stream 2
Sponsor: Australian Government
Duration: Program ends on 31st August 2025 (one year)
Lack of culturally responsive soccer girls and women's coaches and sports administrators from the same cultural background inhibits significant potential culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) women and girls' soccer players from enrolling into soccer due to cultural and religious barriers. The grant will be used in liaison with Football Queensland to train 10 CALD women and girls from diverse cultures and faiths as coaches, referees, and sports administrators to enable them to organise and run daily soccer matches for CALD girls and women. During the period of their training, they will put into practice what they learn by assisting in conducting culturally responsive soccer matches and tournaments of 4 CALD women and girls' soccer teams of 60 players. Questionnaire will be administered to assess success of the program.
V2Social-Connectedness-Programs-for-CALD-Adults-and-Elders
Social Connectedness Programs for CALD Adults and Elders
Grant program: Communities Innovation Fund Small Grants Round 2
Sponsor: Australian Government
Duration: Program ends on 31st August 2025 (one year)
Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) elders above 40 years, illiterate/semiliterate, and single parents are increasingly socially isolated and lonely (SIAL) mainly due to language barrier and uncertainty surrounding gaining Australian citizenship. Indeed, their failure rate is out of proportion to their younger and well-educated counterparts. Multiple failures lead to further worsening of the SIAL. In liaison with CALD community and faith leaders, elders, CALD tutors and Department of Home Affairs, NQUC will conduct a culturally responsive regular daily social engagements among same age range of the same gender and cultural group to socialise, discuss freely and be taught in a flexible, motivational format by a member of their community group of the same age/gender in a mixture of English and their local language. Videos on the citizenship test along with social/educational programs on Australian values will be shown. Coffee and nibbles will be provided. The social connection program will be registered as CALD social club to continue and maintain the program for the future through membership contributions. Sixty participants will be enrolled. Outcome will include a questionnaire to determine level of connectedness, satisfaction, engagement, and improvement in SIAL index. Achieving 50% pass rate of citizenship test is considered a success.
